Kathy loved to love on people, whether it was her children, grandchildren, her corgis, or her students she taught as they struggled with dyslexia, her fellow teachers and educators, and her closest friends and neighbors. She loved quilts, Tex-Mex food, her church and above all else, people.
For many years Kathy worked as a dyslexia teacher helping kids with learning disabilities, teaching them to read, write, and spell. It suited her servant heart. After her children were grown and out of the house, she began her career in teaching and education. She loved every holiday, especially Christmas and Thanksgiving. She had a passion for tennis, watched it religiously along with golf and crime and medical dramas.
Her life was a living example of one of her favorite Bible verses, Mark 12:30-31 - “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”
Kathy is survived by her three sons, Todd (53), Josh (48), and Wade (47), daughters-in-law, Stacey and Megan, son-in-law, Esteban, grandchildren, Emily, JT, and Ella. She is also survived by her siblings, Bill Phillips, Bruce Phillips, and Barbara Good and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private graveside memorial service to celebrate Kathy’s life on Saturday, October 22nd at Restland Funeral home where she will be buried next to her parents Ed & Gladys Phillips, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers and in recognition of her passion for teaching, helping others, and cancer research, please consider making a donation in her honor to one of the following organizations:
- Adopt a Classroom
- World Central Kitchen
- The International Myeloma Foundation

Simply put, Kathy was my friend. I love remembering her laughter, calling everyone “dar’lin”, and enjoying her sunny disposition towards life though life wasn’t always sunny. She was a light to all who knew her and her love drew people to the love of Jesus.
HubbellYou are missed dear friend here on earth but now you’re rejoicing in the heavenly worship of your Savior with beloved family and friends. And that makes my heart glad! Maug
